Forêt fossile

The fossil forest Champclauson is a unique geological site of its kind in France: the trunks of trees and plants 300 million years fossilized in "life position" in their natural setting, the cliff in an old mine.

The fossil forest Champclauson is a vestige of the mining heritage of the Cevennes.

In the showroom you discover the scattered fragments of fossilized trunks and leaves, animals of the Carboniferous era in actual size: millipede 2 meters long.

View Slideshow explains the fossilization of these plants.

The train takes you through a Mediterranean forest and you see some mining relics along the route.

A search area for children: paleontologists apprentices will be able to discover a dinosaur skeleton 6 meters long and skulls of dinosaurs (shovels, rakes, brushes provided for free).
